Allen's Hummingbird

The Allen's Hummingbird is a small bird with males displaying a bright orange throat and green back, found along coastal California and southern Oregon. Known for their impressive courtship dives, males perform steep, fast drops while making sharp chirping sounds to attract females. These agile birds hover to feed on nectar and aren't shy about chasing off intruders from their feeding spots. Despite their size, they’re territorial and energetic, often seen zipping around defending their favorite flowers.
